Software Engineering Director

Canonical is seeking to hire a Software Engineering Director capable of overseeing projects across various teams and time zones. In this role, the director will manage engineering managers and staff engineers responsible for Canonical's largest software products. Responsibilities: - Lead multiple engineering teams, varying from graduate to senior levels. - Develop engineering managers and maintain Canonical's culture. - Hire staff-level engineers focusing on genres like performance and quality. - Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback. - Measure and identify indicators of team health and productivity. - Ensure comprehensive delivery, including community participation and documentation. - Implement and advocate for disciplined engineering processes. - Set and measure progress against goals related to speed and efficiency. - Represent products to stakeholders, partners, and customers. - Collaborate with leadership team and related product leads. Requirements: - Exceptional academic performance in computer science or related fields. - Extensive management experience with a solid track record in Linux-based software engineering. - Excellent communication, organization, and team management skills. - Experience in agile development environments. - Willingness to travel globally for company events twice a year.
